CANONISATION OF CHURCH FATHERS
The formal announcement regarding the elevation of three Church fathers to Sainthood, Mor Baselios Shakralla, Maphryono (AD 1764, Kandanad), Mor Coorilos Yuyakkim, the Patriarchal delegate (AD 1874, Mulanthuruthy) and Mor Koorilos Paulose Kochuparamabil, the former Malankara Metropolitan and the regional head of the Church in India (AD 1917, Panampady), was one of the major events during the current 4th apostolic visit of the H.H. Patriarch Ignatius Zakka-I Iwas. The concerned Patriarchal declarations were readout in the presence of H.H. the Patriarch in three different ceremonies held on 20th, 21st and 24th of October, at the Mulanthuruthy, Kandanad and Panampady churches respectively where the mortal remains of the canonised fathers are interred. As per the bull, the names of these church fathers has to be included in the 5th Tubden and will be read in churches where they are entombed. The canonisation of the Church fathers has been hailed as a defining moment for the Syrian Christian community in Kerala.

It was way back in May 2006 the Malankara Episcopal Synod, conferring to the wishes of the multitude of faithful, has appointed an Episcopal committee to study on the matter of conferring sainthood to the Church fathers. On the basis of the final report, the Episcopal synod which met under the president-ship of His Beatitude the Catholicos Mor Baselios Thomas I on September 9,this year, decided to forward the request to the supreme head of the Church. The Malankara Church is now awaiting for the historical moment.
